Transliteration:

Allahumma aj’alna min alladheena yatalladhdhadhoona bi’badatika

Translation:

O Allah, grant us the sweetness of obedience and faith

Word Meaning:

This supplication asks Allah for two profound blessings: 1. لذة الطاعة (The Delight of Obedience) – The joy and contentment one feels when fulfilling Allah’s commands, making worship and good deeds a source of happiness rather than burden. 2. حلاوة الإيمان (The Sweetness of Faith) – The inner peace, love, and satisfaction that comes from strong belief (Iman), making faith a comforting and uplifting experience.

Breakdown of Key Concepts

لذة الطاعة (Delight of Obedience)

– True obedience to Allah should not feel like a hardship but rather a pleasure. – Examples: Finding joy in prayer (Salah), charity (Sadaqah), fasting (Sawm), and other acts of worship. – A sign of sincere devotion when one longs to worship rather than forcing themselves.

حلاوة الإيمان (Sweetness of Faith)

– A deep, heart-felt connection with Allah that brings tranquility. – The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Whoever possesses the following three qualities will taste the sweetness of faith: – That Allah and His Messenger are dearer to him than anything else, – That he loves a person only for Allah’s sake, – That he hates to return to disbelief as much as he hates to be thrown into fire.” (Bukhari & Muslim) – This sweetness makes trials easier and increases gratitude in blessings.

Why We Ask for This

– Many people perform acts of worship mechanically, without spiritual fulfillment. – Some struggle with weak Iman, feeling distant from Allah. – This dua seeks Allah’s help to make worship joyful and faith deeply satisfying.

How to Attain These Blessings

1. Sincerity (Ikhlas) – Worship for Allah alone, not for show. 2. Consistency – Regular good deeds strengthen faith. 3. Reflection (Tafakkur) – Pondering over the Quran and Allah’s signs increases love for Him. 4. Avoiding Sins – Disobedience hardens the heart and weakens faith. 5. Dua & Reliance on Allah – Continuously ask Allah for these blessings, as they are divine gifts.

Conclusion

This beautiful dua is a request for Allah to make worship a source of happiness and faith a comforting, sweet experience. By sincerely asking for this and striving in righteousness, a believer can attain true spiritual fulfillment.

May Allah grant us all the لذة الطاعة and حلاوة الإيمان. Ameen.
