Word Meaning:

Meaning of the Dua:

This supplication asks Allah to bless the believer with two noble qualities: Hayā’ (حياء) and ‘Iffah (عفاف).

Hayā’ (Modesty/Shyness):

– A moral quality that prevents a person from engaging in shameful or sinful behavior.
– It includes humility before Allah and respect for others.
– The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Hayā’ is a branch of faith.” (Bukhari & Muslim)

‘Iffah (Chastity/Self-Restraint):

– Refers to purity in thoughts, actions, and desires, especially in matters of sexuality.
– It includes guarding one’s gaze, speech, and conduct to avoid immorality.
– The Prophet (ﷺ) often sought refuge in Allah from “immorality and shamelessness.”

Why This Dua is Important:

Protection from Sin: Modesty and chastity act as shields against indecency.
Strengthens Faith: Both traits are signs of strong Iman (faith).
Leads to Dignity: A person with Hayā’ and ‘Iffah earns respect in society.
Divine Help: By asking Allah for these traits, a believer seeks His assistance in staying pure.

When to Recite It:

– During personal supplications, especially after prayers.
– When struggling with temptations or immoral influences.
– As a daily reminder to uphold moral excellence.
