Forgiveness and faith

Duas for self-control and overcoming anger

These supplications ask for guidance and refuge from burdens that can affect conduct. They can support reflection on anger while responsibility for how you treat others remains your own.

For guidance, piety, chastity and sufficiencyhadith
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَى وَالتُّقَى وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَى

Allahumma inni as’alukal-huda wat-tuqa wal-‘afafa wal-ghina.

O Allah, I ask You for guidance, mindfulness of You, chastity, and freedom from need.

The selected requests

Sahih Muslim 2721a asks for guidance, piety, chastity and sufficiency. Sahih al-Bukhari 6369 addresses worry, grief and other pressures.

Their meaning can inform a personal request for better self-control. They are not evidence that anger makes someone blameless for harm or that one formula controls another person.

A separate anger-related report

Sahih al-Bukhari 3282 gives an anger-related account involving seeking refuge from Satan. That is a separate reference from the selected guidance and worry cards.

When comparing advice, keep an instruction’s source beside it. Do not attach a claimed posture, count or sequence to these cards without the evidence that supports that particular instruction.

Acting before harm escalates

Pause a conversation when you cannot speak safely or fairly, and seek support for changing harmful patterns. Where possible, return to the issue calmly and repair what you have damaged.

A request for self-control does not mean that another person must remain exposed to your aggression. If anyone is at risk, focus on safety and appropriate help rather than demanding that they pray more.

Common questions

Does anger remove responsibility? This page makes no such claim. Will a prayer change someone else’s temper? No control over them is promised. Can I seek counselling or other support? Practical help can accompany spiritual effort. Where should I continue? The good-character page connects supplication with conduct; the anxiety page addresses persistent worry.
