Supplication for a sick personhadith
Transliteration

Allahumma Rabban-nasi adh-hibil-ba’s, ishfihi wa antash-Shafi, la shifa’a illa shifa’uka, shifa’an la yughadiru saqama.

English meaning

O Allah, Lord of humanity, remove the suffering and heal him. You are the Healer; healing comes only from You. Grant healing that leaves no illness.

The reported prayer

Sahih al-Bukhari 5743 gives the source for this healing request. It identifies Allah as the Healer and asks for healing without remaining ailment.

The quoted variant uses a masculine singular pronoun. Preserve that quotation’s form; an accurate adaptation for a different person should be learned rather than created by guessing Arabic endings.

Praying with consideration

Ask whether the person would welcome a prayer and whether they prefer quiet company, rest or a shorter visit. Do not make their room or treatment setting into a public recitation event without agreement.

A prayer is addressed to Allah; it is not a demand that the patient recover quickly or demonstrate faith. Continuing symptoms do not allow others to judge the person’s sincerity.

Practical help matters

Offer something concrete and appropriate: an errand, a meal, transport or help contacting someone. Keep medical information private and follow the visitor rules of a hospital or care facility.

Do not recommend stopping treatment or suggest a diagnosis from a spiritual explanation. Health decisions should remain with the person and suitable professionals.

Common questions

Can I pray without visiting? A personal request for someone’s wellbeing does not depend on making a visit. Must I touch the person? Respect consent and the clinical setting; the source is not permission for unwanted touch. Is recovery guaranteed by this site? No. What about someone’s pain? The pain page explains another report rather than adding its instructions to this quotation.
