Wudu is not generally a condition for ordinary personal dua or dhikr outside salah. The purity required for salah, Qur’an recitation and touching a mushaf involves separate rules.
Context and use
If you wish to ask Allah for help while sitting, walking or resting, do not confuse that request with starting a ritual prayer.
Sunni school differences
Qur’an recitation and handling a mushaf have school-specific purity rules. The guide on menstruation distinguishes the majority position and a Maliki allowance; rules of ordinary remembrance cannot simply be extended to every activity.
General remembrance and purity
Sahih Muslim 373 reports that the Prophet remembered Allah in his various states. It is an important starting point for distinguishing ordinary remembrance from the purity required to perform salah.
You may make a personal request without treating it as a new prayer session. If you choose to perform salah, obtain the purification that prayer requires.
Three activities to distinguish
Personal dua and dhikr: requests and remembrance outside salah. Qur’an recitation: speaking the revealed text. Handling a mushaf: touching a physical copy of the Qur’an. Their rulings should not be collapsed into one answer.
A Qur’anic phrase spoken as a request may raise an additional question about intention and recitation. Ask according to your school rather than assuming that its presence on a dua page settles the issue.
After-wudu remembrance
The testimony reported after completing wudu in Sahih Muslim 234a has its own occasion. Saying it after wudu is a different issue from claiming that all duas require wudu beforehand.
Different narrations contain different wording. Keep a formula paired with the reference that actually supplies it, rather than adding familiar phrases under an unrelated citation.
When circumstances are complicated
If you have a question involving menstruation, major ritual impurity, illness or access to water, explain the situation to a qualified teacher. A general dua guide cannot replace the detailed purification guidance needed for prayer.
It can still help you separate the questions: may I make a personal request, may I recite Qur’an, and what must I do before salah?
Common questions
Does losing wudu mean I must stop an ordinary personal dua? Do not apply the prayer’s purity requirements automatically to ordinary supplication.
Is a phone the same as a mushaf? Device handling and spoken recitation are separate questions; obtain guidance for the activity you intend.
What should I read after wudu? Begin with a sourced after-wudu remembrance and learn its actual wording.
